Welcome to Broken Rubbers, the first blog (to the best of my knowledge) that’s dedicated not only to news and information about birth control, but also to musings – mine and hopefully others’ as well – and discussion. I’m Alex and I’m a student in Houston, Texas. I stole the name “Broken Rubbers” from a group of bicyclists that get together once a week in my neighborhood, and I hope they don’t mind. I don’t think this name of this blog is quite as serious as the content will be, but I’m as much about the giggles as I am about dealing with the serious issues I want to talk about here.
I have to admit that I don’t really have the authority to write this blog. Outside of my own experience, I’m not an expert on birth control. My hope is that the blog will not only be a thorough source for news and information for my readers, but that writing it will also help me develop my expertise on the subject – thereby helping me do a better job of bringing information to you and facilitating discussion. The internet is full of self-made experts, so if the least I can do on some days is link to a news story, at least I’m getting there. With the right Google alerts and a lot of sincere dedication, I think I can make this blog worth a read.
When I say birth control, I mean every kind of sexual protection you can imagine. “Birth control” is sort of a heterosexist term the way I’m using it. STD protection is important for people of any orientation, and I want to include that in the dialogue here as well. There are also a lot of topics that are at least tangentially related to BC that I hope to touch on occasionally as well: abortion, masturbation, sex education, etc.
With all that said, onward through the fog.
i’m excited. let the rubbers unfurl
very interesting. looking forward to the content you will provide.
This blog doesn’t deal with my problems as an asexual :(
